Bring on the Dane! Lopetegui Must Go, West Ham Deserve a Premier League Winner!
If the West Ham United ownership wants to avoid a battle to stay in the Premier League this season, they should waste no time in letting Julen Lopetegui go. The club’s performance today against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground was nothing short of disastrous, and a large part of the blame falls squarely on Lopetegui’s shoulders.
Yes, Edson Alvarez’s absurd sending-off was a huge disappointment and undeniably left the team handicapped, but using it as an excuse for today’s shambolic display would be missing the point. West Ham’s struggles ran far deeper, as they were lifeless and disjointed from kickoff until the final whistle. From the moment Lopetegui stepped into the manager’s role, his approach has raised eyebrows, and today’s defeat must surely have frustrated the West Ham hierarchy.
Lopetegui deserves some credit for his activity in the transfer window, bringing in strong additions like Niclas Fullkrug and Crysencio Summerville. But his decisions to integrate these new faces have been questionable at best. Rather than injecting fresh talent, Lopetegui often opted for the same uninspiring lineup that underperformed last season. This lack of initiative has sapped the excitement that once surrounded the club, leaving West Ham playing catch-up from the very start. It’s hard to imagine the Spanish coach climbing out of the pit he’s dug for himself.
To me, the solution for David Sullivan is clear: Lopetegui needs to be dismissed if there’s any hope of reviving West Ham’s campaign. By bringing in someone with a fresh perspective, the Hammers could find themselves transformed. One name that stands out is Brentford’s Thomas Frank.
In comparison, Frank operates on an entirely different level from Lopetegui. The Danish manager is tactically sharp and renowned for his man-management skills, an area where Lopetegui appears to be floundering. Securing Frank would be an investment of around £9 million, but it would undoubtedly be one of the best financial decisions West Ham has made in years. It’s time for Sullivan to make a professional, forward-thinking appointment and pay the release clause for someone who could genuinely lift the club to new heights.
Sullivan didn’t hesitate to fork out £50 million for the likes of Niclas Fullkrug and Luis Guilherme, an untested Brazilian teenager. It’s baffling to see him penny-pinch when it comes to hiring the right manager. We didn’t call for David Moyes’s exit just to see his Spanish equivalent come in and keep us stuck in the same place
