“They’re tired, mate. They can’t,” he said bluntly. “If we hadn’t played on Thursday night and I had the ability to rotate the squad, do you think we’d have been pressing more aggressively today?
“Unless you believe these players are superhuman, it’s simply not possible. We played Liverpool on Thursday, and then we had to come here today. These are human beings, not machines.”
Postecoglou also emphasized that other clubs in similar situations would rotate their starting XI to keep players fresh, something he has been unable to do due to injuries. “Liverpool and other top teams change 11 players if needed,” he added. “I wish I could do the same, but right now, I can’t. The reality is that the squad is running on fumes.”
