Despite undergoing a significant roster overhaul in the offseason, Patty Gasso’s Oklahoma Sooners remain as dominant as ever, boasting a flawless 19-0 record and reclaiming their familiar place at the top of the national rankings. While some within the program prefer to label this as a “reload” rather than a rebuild, one thing is clear—Oklahoma is still the team to beat in college softball. However, their true mettle is about to be tested in a way it hasn’t been all season.
For the first time in program history, the Sooners are set to embark on an SEC conference schedule, entering a league that is widely considered the toughest in college softball—just as it is in many other sports. The challenge begins this Friday with a marquee showdown against No. 10 South Carolina (20-0), another undefeated powerhouse, in a three-game series at the Sooners’ brand-new Love’s Field.
As the four-time defending national champions, Oklahoma has been a dominant force for years, but this season brings a new kind of challenge. Alongside South Carolina, they are one of only two remaining unbeaten teams in the country, making this upcoming series a high-stakes battle between two national title contenders. Yet, this is just the start of what will be a grueling SEC slate for the Sooners.
Over the next four weekends, Oklahoma will go head-to-head with three teams currently ranked in the top 10, providing the most rigorous test of the season thus far.
