Caleb Williams Draws Heat After Saying “Packers Fans Suck” Over Lambeau Leap Snub
Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams has already stoked the flames of the NFL’s oldest rivalry before even taking his first regular-season snap, telling reporters that “Packers fans suck” after they booed his suggestion that he and his teammates might try a Lambeau Leap this season.
Williams’ comment came during a media availability in Chicago, where he was asked about the possibility of scoring at Green Bay’s iconic Lambeau Field. Laughing at first, he explained:
“Yeah, they told me not to even think about doing the Lambeau Leap. I said, why not? They were like, ‘Packers fans won’t catch you. They’ll let you fall.’ Honestly, Packers fans suck for that. It’s supposed to be all in good fun.”
The remark instantly made waves on social media, with Packers supporters firing back that the Lambeau Leap is a tradition reserved for Packers players only. Videos of previous games show that opposing players who’ve tried it have been jeered, pushed back, or even had beer spilled on them.
Packers safety Darnell Savage weighed in when asked about Williams’ comments:
“Bro, you’re not jumping in our stands. That’s sacred ground. He better focus on completing passes first.”
Fans in Wisconsin were even less diplomatic. Posts on X and Instagram called Williams “cocky” and “disrespectful” before he’s played a down in the rivalry. Many Bears fans, on the other hand, seemed delighted to see their rookie QB embracing the age-old hatred between Chicago and Green Bay.
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus downplayed the controversy, saying Williams is just “having fun” and that “we love the rivalry, it’s part of the NFL.” Still, he acknowledged that the team might be wise to avoid any celebratory leaps in Green Bay.
Williams has shown no signs of backing down, replying to critics online with laughing emojis and memes of players getting dropped by Packers fans while attempting the Leap.
The Bears and Packers are scheduled to face off in Week 4 at Lambeau Field, and tickets for that game reportedly saw a slight spike after Williams’ remark went viral.
