The cause of Rodrigo Bentancur’s alarming collapse during Tottenham Hotspur’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg match against Liverpool on Wednesday evening has been confirmed. The Uruguayan midfielder was forced to leave the pitch during the first half after an unsettling incident that prompted an extended medical response on the field.
A Sudden Collapse Causes Concern
Bentancur unexpectedly fell to the ground without any contact from other players, triggering immediate concern for his health. The match was halted as medical personnel attended to him for nine minutes before he was stretchered off to an ovation from both Tottenham and Liverpool supporters.
