Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori, joining Aston Villa in pursuit of the English defender. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio first reported on Friday that Spurs have taken concrete steps to secure the 26-year-old’s signature during the January transfer window.
According to multiple sources in Italy, the North London club have put forward a serious bid to bring Tomori back to the Premier League. Corriere della Sera reports that AC Milan are currently assessing Tottenham’s €30 million offer, although the player himself is uncertain about leaving the San Siro at this stage of the season.
Meanwhile, Sky Italia claims that Tottenham and Milan have already reached a verbal agreement on a deal worth €25 million plus €5 million in potential bonuses. Despite this agreement between the clubs, the final decision now rests with Tomori, who is reportedly weighing up his future. The uncertainty over his situation has cast doubt on whether he will feature in Milan’s crucial clash against Inter Milan on Sunday.
If Tomori does leave, Genoa’s Saba Goglichidze has been identified as a possible replacement for the former Chelsea defender. However, Milan are not in a rush to offload Tomori and were not actively looking for a buyer before Tottenham’s approach, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The Italian outlet states that while Milan find Spurs’ offer “tempting,” they are aware that Tomori remains unconvinced about making the switch.
Italian journalist Daniele Longo provided further updates on social media, revealing that Milan have officially accepted Tottenham’s bid of €25 million plus €5 million in bonuses. However, Tomori has requested additional time to consider his options before making a final decision.
TuttoMercatoWeb adds that the only thing holding up the deal is Tomori’s approval. Milan are now working to persuade the player to accept the move, given that the transfer window closes on Monday. While Sky Italia suggests that Tomori may be left out of the squad for the upcoming derby against Inter, TMW contradicts this, stating that manager Sérgio Conceição may still include him in the lineup due to a shortage of defensive options.
Should Milan ultimately sell Tomori, they will have very little time to secure a suitable replacement before the transfer window slams shut. With just days remaining, Tottenham are pushing hard to finalize the deal, but it remains to be seen whether Tomori will agree to return to England and join Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
