The Green Bay Packers entered the offseason with a major question mark in Jaire Alexander, and not much has changed since then.
The Packers are clearly not keen on paying Alexander what’s left of his $84 million contract after he has struggled with injuries in three of the past four seasons, which has led to rumors that the team could cut or trade him this offseason.
Before they do that, the Packers have reportedly approached Alexander about a contract restructure, although it isn’t clear how receptive he is to that.
If nothing changes, it’s almost a lock that Alexander will be cut or traded. And, if so, CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin believes the Raiders could make a play for him.
The Raiders made a few significant changes to their cornerbacks room in 2025, with the team cutting Jack Jones, signing Eric Stokes and drafting Darien Porter.
The problem is that Las Vegas doesn’t have much proven talent at the position, and the team is lacking a reliable slot option with Darnay Holmes currently penciled in to start.
Jakorian Bennett is probably the surest thing on the boundary for Las Vegas, but he has just one good season under his belt after a breakout showing last season that followed a horrific rookie campaign.
Meanwhile, the spot opposite Bennett is murky. Porter and Decamerion Richardson are unproven, and Stokes has been a major disappointment during his career. It remains to be seen if a slot solution will also come from this trio.
It’s conceivable the Raiders could look to add a more experienced starting option, and Alexander would qualify as such. However, thanks to his contract and injury history, the Raiders are likely to balk at trying to add him via trade.
Now, if Las Vegas could nab Alexander on a cheap free-agent deal, he’d be worth a swing. But we tend to believe the Raiders will stick with the guys they have and instead look for someone who can play in the slot, which Alexander cannot.
