Hunter Greene can’t stop going 100.
The Cincinnati Reds right-hander is the best 100 mile per hour thrower in baseball since pitch tracking began in 2008, and likely one of the best ever.
On Wednesday, Greene threw 59 fastballs and averaged 100.0 miles per hour on the pitch.
He’s the only pitch since 2008 to throw 50-plus fastballs in a game and average 100 on them, and he’s now done it a remarkable seven times, according to MLB stats expert Sarah Langs.
Greene is off to a tough-luck start to the season, striking out eight batters in each of his first two starts while allowing a total of three runs yet losing both games.
The luck should even out for the flamethrower if he keeps pitching like this, though.
Greene entered the professional ranks as a two-way prodigy who eventually focused in on pitching.
It seems like it was the right choice.
