The Baltimore Orioles have fallen flat in 2025. After two straight years in the postseason, Baltimore is in last place in the American League East at 22-36.
The team has a lot of pieces on expiring contracts that could be trade bait at the deadline. Chances are they will be sellers rather than buyers.
One player in particular who could be traded is outfielder Cedric Mullins.
He is a former All-Star and Silver Slugger and could generate a solid haul. Jeff Passan of ESPN believes the New York Mets could target him.
“Mullins has been one of the Orioles’ lone bright spots this season, and as solid as Tyrone Taylor has been in center, Mullins’ bat is significantly better and his glove, though admittedly lesser than Taylor’s, is perfectly acceptable,” Passan wrote.
Mullins is hitting .232/.324/.448. His average is low, but he also has hit 10 home runs, driven in 31 runs, stolen eight bases and posted a .771 OPS.
His contract is very affordable, which could make him an attractive asset to contending teams. In addition, he could bring back a solid haul for the Orioles as they try to reset for 2026 and beyond.
Their hopes of salvaging 2025 are bleak at best, so it might make sense for them to trade Mullins to a contender and see what they can get in exchange.
Mullins is currently on the 10-Day Injured List, but the 30-year-old has been a key contributor for the Orioles in 2025 despite their struggles.
It will be interesting to see what the Orioles can get if they do trade him to New York.
