“There’s clearly trouble at Wolves and West Ham,” Keys wrote in his latest blog entry on November 4. “West Ham’s problems are all of their own making, and I don’t have an ounce of sympathy for them. It’ll get worse there before it gets better. They’re certainly going in another direction since forcing David Moyes out. It’s just not the one they wanted to go in. Frank Lampard?”
Keys’ suggestion of Lampard as a managerial option for West Ham is met with skepticism, especially given Lampard’s inconsistent record in the Premier League. While Lampard impressed during his initial managerial stint with Derby County, his tenure at Chelsea and later at Everton left much to be desired. At Chelsea, he had moments of promise but ultimately struggled with tactical consistency. His brief return to Chelsea in 2022-23 as caretaker manager only added to doubts, as he averaged just 0.45 points per match.

Despite his standing as a former England international and Premier League icon, Lampard has yet to prove himself capable of turning around a struggling side or instilling the kind of stability West Ham would likely need if they part ways with Lopetegui. Edin Terzic, the talented Borussia Dortmund manager, is reportedly on the shortlist as a potential replacement should the club decide to move in a new direction.
While Keys has a right to his opinion, many West Ham fans would likely see Lampard as a regressive choice, especially with the club needing stability and long-term vision. The prospect of Terzic, who has a more recent track record of success in European football, seems to better align with the club’s aspirations to compete with the Premier League’s elite.
